How to Stay Safe While Chatting with Strangers Online — 9 Practical Rules
The whole charm of random chat is that the person on the other side does not know you. But that anonymity works both ways — you are only truly safe when you always follow a few basic rules. These rules may sound boring, but they are exactly the things that stop a good chat from becoming a bad memory.
Rule 1: Never give away your identity. Use a display name instead of your real name (this is why BaatBox never asks for your real name). Never share your phone number, email, the name of your school or college, your office address, or your neighbourhood. A good conversation never needs any of it.
Rule 2: Think before you send a photo. On BaatBox a photo is temporary and is not stored on the server, but the other person can take a screenshot — and no app in the world can prevent that. So only send a photo you would not mind being saved. Sending strangers photos that show your face or reveal who you are is never a good idea.
Rule 3: Do not click links. If your partner sends a link — however interesting it looks — do not click it. Phishing and malware usually spread exactly this way. A genuine conversation never needs a link.
Rule 4: Any mention of money means the chat is over. If someone asks for a recharge, a UPI transfer, a gift card, or money in the name of 'help', end the conversation right there. This is the oldest and most common online fraud there is. Press Report & Next and move on.
Rule 5: Do not be in a hurry to move to another app. When someone immediately asks you to come to WhatsApp or Telegram, slow down. A BaatBox chat is temporary and anonymous — on another app, your number and profile are exposed. Talk properly here first; only move on if trust has genuinely been built, and only by your own choice.
Rule 6: Stop the moment something feels uncomfortable. If a remark, a demand for a photo, or someone's language does not sit right with you, you owe no explanation. Press Next. On a good platform, leaving is always one tap away — on BaatBox, it is.
Rule 7: Do not share location details. 'I am from Delhi' is fine; 'I live in this sector, on this street' is not. City-level information is plenty for a conversation.
Rule 8: Keep age in mind. Random chat is for adults (18+). If the other person seems very young, end the conversation — that is your responsibility too.
Rule 9: Do not forget to report. When someone breaks the rules, pressing Report & Next does not just protect you — it keeps the platform clean for everyone. A report takes one second.
One last thing: random chat is meant to be light, easy conversation with no strings attached. A conversation that stresses you out was never what this platform was built for. Press Next and you will find a new partner — that is the whole design.

Why Interest-Based Matching Makes Random Chat Better
On older random chat platforms, most conversations used to die right after 'hi, where are you from?'. Here is how interest matching solves that problem — and how BaatBox puts it to work.
